Amy Winehouse recently won an award for Best Song Musically and Lyrically for her self-penned song ‘Love is A Losing Game’ but is too late to even receive her award. On her behalf, it is her father Mitch who had to go on stage and accept the 24 year old singer’s Ivor Novello award.

Reports say that the judges of the prestigious award have placed the singer’s troubles behind her so that they could give her the award. According to Yahoo! news, Amy’s husband, Blake Fielder-Civil, is currently in jail waiting for trial on charges of conspiracy to pervert the course of justice.

I believe there is really no one like Madonna. Even at her age right now, she still finds a way to re-invent herself and amaze her fans with her music. Every time she has a new album out, Madonna could not help but amaze her fans with her new music. And because of that I have liked her so much. She is unique and is not afraid to show what she has got. She may not be as young as other well known stars these days but Madonna’s star shines as bright as them. And maybe years in the years to come, we’ll continue seeing her setting the trend in the pop music arena.

I know I’m kind of late but I was just so glad and overwhelmed that my bet, David Cook, won the American Idol finals. No hard feelings for the Archuleta fans, because I believe he is also great, but I think Cook deserves it more. Anyway, I am being kind of biased here so I guess my remark is not acceptable as a credible one. But I still believe Cook deserves it. At first he was the one being picked at as forgettable but he proved the judges and the audience wrong. Ever since his entry on the top 12, his performances have been consistent and very memorable.

The recently concluded American Idol season 7 had the two David as its finalist, David Archuleta and (my favorite) David Cook. Too bad for me I was not able to watch the showdown and the result because of busy work. However, I am really blessed that my officemates would always talk about it in the office that’s why I get a lot of news from them. So, it is finally the two David. I kind of predicted that to happen since they are the only ones who performed consistently during the show. They are both great, the only difference is Cook (I believe) is more versatile than Archuleta. Cook can sing anything, from ballad to rock to Broadway, while Archuleta is a full balladeer and sometimes some songs just don’t fit his voice. But anyhow, they’re both great and they deserved to be in the top 2 spot.

There are only a few weeks left before the final judgement. And I can’t help but keep myself posted on the happenings on American Idol. Recently, the one voted out was Jason Castro, after he did a not really good performance of ‘I Shot the Sheriff.’ So who are left? They are Sayesha Mercado and the two Davids, David Cook (my favorite) and David Archuleta (very predictable). But the question really is who will be this year’s American Idol? I believe all of them are great singers and performers. Everybody obviously has the talent but the competition now lies in the hands of the voters. Who will win America’s heart?

I have this new song in mind and I’m actually listening to it right now. A prospect audition piece for a singing contest, of course. It is an old song actually and I’ve heard it before but I’ve never really paid any attention to it until it was suggested by a friend. It is Linda Eder’s ‘After All’. So last night I really asked my friend to send me the mp3 of the song and he was right to say that it is a good song! And now, can’t help but listen to it over and over again. Another challenge for me, I guess and I’m really excited about it. I just have to get rid of the cough and colds that I’m suffering from right now and get my voice back in shape.

Never had it occurred to me that a rock star voice like David Cook’s could actually turn into something Broadway. I was so amazed when I heard him sang Music of the Night from the musical The Phantom of the Opera. His performance only showed how flexible his voice can be and how flexible he can be as a performer. Paula Abdul always say that David Cook is the whole package and I believe so too. He has got the looks, the talent and most of all, he has the flexibility that isn’t seen in most artists. He surely is awesome.

One of the toughest themes that ever happened on American Idol was Andrew Lloyd Webber’s. Being a genius on Broadway musical songs, we have known that Andrew Lloyd Webber’s compositions have captured the hearts of its listeners. And during the previous week of American Idol, the contestants have remarkably performed songs like Music of the Night and Think of Me. However, others still have gone through a tough time with their songs but were able to finish them quite well. According to Randy Jackson, that week was one of the toughest since Broadway is not an ordinary type of music and most pop singers can’t actually sing these songs.

Of all the famous female artists that we have today, I believe that Mariah Carey is the one who stood firm. She has had many problems in her career and has been through many intrigues but Mariah Carey is still Mariah Carey, nothing and no one can bring her down. She stays strong despite the troubles and problems in her career and now she is stronger than before. Her comeback album in 2005, The Emancipation of Mimi, opened at number one which proves that Mariah is still here to stay. So what makes Mariah stay? All I know is that she’s simply Mariah, and that fact alone makes her shine and stand out among the rest.

Being a music fan, I usually crave to hear good music. And because there are so many artists these days, I can’t very much afford to buy all their albums.

Pop music is really growing and many artists are emerging just like the number of singing contests available all over the world. There is no really big problem with that except that it is harder to choose which artist to support because there are too many of them. It happens especially when you like songs from different artists. It can get a little crazy sometimes and since you are a fan, there’s nothing you can really do but just buy and support. =)
