I have this new song in mind and I’m actually listening to it right now. A prospect audition piece for a singing contest, of course. It is an old song actually and I’ve heard it before but I’ve never really paid any attention to it until it was suggested by a friend. It is Linda Eder’s ‘After All’. So last night I really asked my friend to send me the mp3 of the song and he was right to say that it is a good song! And now, can’t help but listen to it over and over again. Another challenge for me, I guess and I’m really excited about it. I just have to get rid of the cough and colds that I’m suffering from right now and get my voice back in shape.

Never had it occurred to me that a rock star voice like David Cook’s could actually turn into something Broadway. I was so amazed when I heard him sang Music of the Night from the musical The Phantom of the Opera. His performance only showed how flexible his voice can be and how flexible he can be as a performer. Paula Abdul always say that David Cook is the whole package and I believe so too. He has got the looks, the talent and most of all, he has the flexibility that isn’t seen in most artists. He surely is awesome.

One of the toughest themes that ever happened on American Idol was Andrew Lloyd Webber’s. Being a genius on Broadway musical songs, we have known that Andrew Lloyd Webber’s compositions have captured the hearts of its listeners. And during the previous week of American Idol, the contestants have remarkably performed songs like Music of the Night and Think of Me. However, others still have gone through a tough time with their songs but were able to finish them quite well. According to Randy Jackson, that week was one of the toughest since Broadway is not an ordinary type of music and most pop singers can’t actually sing these songs.

Of all the famous female artists that we have today, I believe that Mariah Carey is the one who stood firm. She has had many problems in her career and has been through many intrigues but Mariah Carey is still Mariah Carey, nothing and no one can bring her down. She stays strong despite the troubles and problems in her career and now she is stronger than before. Her comeback album in 2005, The Emancipation of Mimi, opened at number one which proves that Mariah is still here to stay. So what makes Mariah stay? All I know is that she’s simply Mariah, and that fact alone makes her shine and stand out among the rest.

Being a music fan, I usually crave to hear good music. And because there are so many artists these days, I can’t very much afford to buy all their albums.

Pop music is really growing and many artists are emerging just like the number of singing contests available all over the world. There is no really big problem with that except that it is harder to choose which artist to support because there are too many of them. It happens especially when you like songs from different artists. It can get a little crazy sometimes and since you are a fan, there’s nothing you can really do but just buy and support. =)

I was reading the entertainment section of the newspaper a while ago when the title of a certain article caught my attention, “Leona Lewis Beats Mariah Carey.” I have heard that Leona Lewis is really a hit in the US these days after being declared as the X Factor winner. Her single entitled Bleeding Love, as what I’ve read, soared to number 1 in the US charts and that makes her the third female solo British artist to make it to number 1. The first female British artist was Petula Clark (1965) with Downtown while Kim Wilde was the second with her single Hanging On.

It is just so interesting that this season Idol chose to feature songs sang by my all time favorite singer Mariah Carey. We all know that Mariah is really a big artist and has withstood so many trials and issues in the industry. What made it more interesting for me is the fact that the guys will actually have to sing a girl’s song and for me, it’s really challenging plus I don’t have any idea how they’re going to interpret it and make it their own. So I was watching it and it surprised me that the guys were actually better than the girls. Whoa to that! And my favorite performance of the night? David Cook’s rendition of Always Be My Baby. He was really amazing during that performance and he made it really unique to listen to.

Did you know that the phenomenon did not begin with HSM? Britney Spears herself came from the Disney family as well, and so was Christina Aguilera. You must be aware of the many great things they have accomplished in their careers in pop music, based on your shelf which has their albums or maybe posters of them that used to be on your wall.

And don’t you get me started on Miley Cyrus. It would not be possible for today’s pop teen sensation to not see the fame that arose in the recognition of her gift of singing, dancing and acting. Yes, made possible by Disney!

Try to analyze, what’s the group that’s never left out on all the pop charts? What keeps leaving kids shrieking for more? What brings us to our last song syndrome? The kids from goody-two-shoes Disney, of course!

There came a season when the tunes of Highschool Musical were the most sung and the most played… and I believe up to now, they still are. In spite a few scandals from the cast members, they remain sought after. It was believed to be a phenomenon; the number of teens watching from their living rooms just could not be counted. Projects have been announced such as the musical “Camp Rock” starring the Jonas Brothers, that’s being hoped to have the same Highschool Musical fame. So, Disney has a lot more in store for the pop cycle.

In recognition for those seven successful years, the program has shown America that they have certainly made something out of themselves. Winners of the show—even the finalists—have made it to places. Shrieking fans, successful album releases, awards and nominations (even an Oscar), and so much more that happened and has yet to follow. This also proves that the judges chose the right ones.

Almost all the artists that are fresh from the competition chose the pop scene as the genre for their albums, like Katharine McPhee, Blake Lewis, Jordin Sparks and to name a few. Which explains why up to now, they’re still being voted for.
